盈利预警 profit warning

受美联储再度调低利率的影响，日经指数于本周三平均上涨1.1个百分点，但日本的汽车业似乎前景并不明朗，本田汽车股票价格出现大幅下挫。

在上面的报道中，profit warning就是指"盈利预警"，由于上市公司对信息披露有严格要求，公司无论好的消息还是坏的消息，都要及时公布，让投资人了解，而不能只是自己内部知道，不公布出来。

一个公司持续不断地盈利，并且盈利是不断增长的，才值得投资，如果发布盈利预警，预示着这个公司经营有问题了，赚钱不像以前那样多了，投资人就要谨慎了。而"发布盈利预警"，就是issue a profit warning。

Profit在这里的意思是"盈利、利润"，例如我们平时所说的"毛/净利"，就是gross/net profits。此外，我们还常用它来表示"利益、好处"。Jim把自己的产品降价出售了，他觉得要small profits and quick returns（薄利多销）才能赚钱，最终他得到了fat profit（巨额利润）。而他的竞争对手Mike认为他在reap profits at the expense of others（损人利已），所以一直很烦恼。
