遣返 repatriatio

据报道，目前大约有3万马来西亚人非法居留在英国而不愿回国。为此，马来西亚驻英国高级特使正在积极努力使这些人尽早返回本国。马来西亚人一直享受6个月免签证赴英旅游的优惠政策，而这些非法滞留人员的存在使得英国开始考虑是否要对其恢复签证制度。

The British government reportedly has introduced a voluntary repatriation program to offer one-way tickets for overstayers, including Malaysians, to send them back home.

据称，英国政府已经推出一项自愿遣返计划，为包括马来西亚人在内的那些非法居留人员提供单程回国机票。

在上面的报道中，repatriation指的是restoring someone to his homeland，即我们常说的"遣送回国"，repatriation program就是"遣返计划"。如果一个人在别的国家做了违反该国法律的事情，或者签证到期仍然非法居留的话，就有可能会被"遣送回国"（to be repatriated），那么这些"被遣送回国的人"就是repatriate。

说到"非法居留"，上面的这个报道里用到了一个我们很常见的词overstay，从这个词的构成我们就可以看出来它表示的是"待的时间过长，超过了合理的期限"，这样的人就被叫做overstayer（非法居留人员），从某种意义上讲，他们是等同于illegal immigrant（非法移民）的。
